As possibly everyone knows, every year Anwyl's company hosts a long vacation weekend at some relaxing spot. This year, it was Maui, which might have been the best one yet. It was Maui 8 years ago, but three of us missed the plane and because it was a holiday weekend, spent two days of a 3-days-plus-2-travel-days trip at the airport, waiting for seats to open up. The one who made the plane (Rowyn) was not too happy about being alone in a sea of her Dad's work colleagues. We made extra sure to catch the plane this time! This time, Rowyn was coming from Tokyo, where she is working, and Esther came from North Carolina, where she will be going to school headed to a nursing degree. But she stopped in CA for the night and then flew out with us. Trip highlights:
1) We took a surfing lesson and we all got up on the board at least once!
2) I had my first successful snorkeling experience, after three tries on other trips when I ended up with a snootful of ocean water, saw no fish, and hated every second. This time, awesome.
3) With no discussion about it, the girls were suddenly taking care of us rather than vice versa -- getting our boarding passes, researching nearby vegetarian restaurants, scheduling events (Esther was the engine behind the surfing lessons), calling app based car services, and so on. It felt a bit strange, but also awesome. They are women of the world now, no question.
4) Possibly due to that last point above, we all seemed to enjoy each others' company which was the very, very best part.
5) And...we took along black kitty, who has a regular job guarding our house key. He proved to be rather hard to see so I didn't try to get him into the photo with the African Blackfoot penguins who live at the hotel but he did get to admire one of the hotel's reproductions of ancient Chinese sculpture and a flower from one of the trees...

I'm a little offended that this was better than the Park City trip when we braved snowy conditions to drive an hour each way to meet up for dinner. But, given all the highlights, you might have a point. Although, the vegetarian thing seems like they might be trying to starve you guys!
Sounds like fun!
Seeing you was the highlight of the Park City trip, no question! I rated the trip overall lower since one of my other memories is stumbling around in deep snow in boots that were too inflexible to walk -- I guess I shouldn't really blame that on Utah, as they were a last minute purchase of the only pair in my size at REI.
Sounds like poor planning.
Fair enough, though.
Definitely it was poor planning, on the part of Function who scheduled the trip in the middle of the semester:) I was lucky I had something on my feet that was waterproof, I guess.
