USA Tour: Day 12

Monday, August 5. Mike had promised Laureva a croissant, so once everyone finally managed to get cleaned up and dressed about eleven, he and Serra took the girls out to a bakery in search of one. They also stopped at the Nelson-Atkins museum to see a mummy at the Egyptian Art gallery and do the glass maze. Unfortunately, Maëva walked into the wall at the end and banged her head. Luckily, seeing the mummy apparently snapped her out of her funk.

They picked up Sylvain and I for 1pm lunch at Waldo Pizza in the Waldo neighborhood adjacent to Brookside where the Goodmans live. Short stop for shopping and ice cream at the Made in KC store in the Plaza. The girls spent more of their money on lip balm lockets, an eco-friendly purchase which also supports bees. Back home for rest and another viewing of The Descendants.
5:30 outing to Raygun downtown for Sylvain to look for fun t-shirts. Then we stopped for a drink at The Belfry, the bar/restaurant where Doug works. His boss, Selena, is a celebrity chef who has been on a few cooking competition shows. I tried one of his signature whiskey cocktails named District 2 after a Paris arrondissement. Quite a stiff drink, but also quite tasty!
For dinner, we picked up BBQ to go from Oklahoma Joe's. I had a portobello mushroom sandwich with cheese, barbecue sauce and fried onion rings. It was delicious! Girls watched Descendants 3 as they ate. After dinner, they went swimming. Then Serra got out some of Sam's old clothes for them to choose some from and they treated us to a fashion show as we chatted on the back deck. By the time Serra and I turned in after midnight, everyone else was sleeping. I had to carry the girls upstairs to Sam's room from their curled up positions on the couches.
