The weekend got off to a slow start, and then we spent much of the middle of Saturday playing board games with Idaho, but we did set out for a walk before sunset this afternoon.
Nicole and I worked on a couple projects in the basement, including assembling one of the four supports for the shelf that will adorn the cedar wall. It looks like we'll need one more pipe size we didn't account for, plus two that didn't come in the shipment. It's unexpected to order a box of ten and instead get a bag of seven.
We played Kingdom Builder and Hanabi with the Taylors. They had to relearn the latter, but since we played quite a lot of it a year ago in person, it came back pretty fast. We also played several rounds of Stone Age among ourselves.
For lunch I suggested scrambled egg sandwiches, and got five yeas. They were well appreciated. For dinner, we ultimately settled on ordering from a Mongolian restaurant. Colin is doing a unit on Asia and chose Mongolia for his report. Lydia says she's doing a report on Mongolia as well. A weird coincidence, if so.
After dinner, we watched a documentary called The Eagle Huntress, which takes place in Mongolia. I had promised it to Lydia because of the similarity to the book she got for Christmas that she recently finished reading, called Stand on the Sky. It was a good show. We marveled at the eagles and laughed at the clothing frozen stiff and the universality of teenagers.
In news of raptors closer to home, the owl was in residence during our walk to the pharmacy. It was nearing dusk and we thought she might take to the wing, so we waited a few minutes before moving on. When we came back fifteen minutes later she had gone. Perhaps next time we'll be more patient.
