Woolly paddocks

Wednesday morning, Eric woke me up very early because he was frightened by the dark, so I went to his room with him. I thought he had fallen asleep again, and I was cold, so I went back to my room, but he reawakened, maybe. For the second try, I took my pillow and got a blanket. I woke up still a little cold from sleeping on the floor. I decided I probably don't need to get up at my usual time only to cast around for things to do after the kids leave for school, so tomorrow I'm going to try waking up when they're supposed to and showering after breakfast. If history is any guide, though, I may not sleep all the way until my alarm.

Rachel was up early enough to catch the bus for the first time this year. (The first time it has been running on time.) She reported that the bus driver didn't know the route to school and went around in circles a bit. Despite the other kids having piano nearby, she opted to ride the bus home, as well. She didn't have to wait around for them, but they still made it home before she did.

I had lots of meetings at work today, and little time to do anything else. I worked a little late finishing up a hiring committee packet for tomorrow. Then, Nicole was arranging dinner from Giddy Up. Once she'd ordered, I rode along for pick-up. It was bright and sunny this evening. I found one new fallen tomatillo in the backyard when we returned. There are still many more on the vines, but I can't imagine they're getting much sun.

After dinner, I dragged Eric down to play Minecraft to free up the computer for Rachel. He wanted to start a new survival world, so we did. I learned some new tricks. He wanted me to "parkour" up a steep hill to mine some coal, but I'm not skilled enough. Eventually, Rachel came and relieved me so I could set up Eric's COVID test. (Negative.) When I came back, Rachel had made a stone outbuilding on the other side of the hill and Eric had built a corral out of wool.
