Three boosters

Sunday, after the hangout concluded and we'd had some lunch, we set out for our day's business. We stopped at the Greenwood library branch. It has parking underneath the building. Greenwood is the neighborhood north of Fremont and west of Green Lake.

From there we went to Whitman Middle School. We were early for our appointment, but they took us anyway. Eric expressed fear at getting his booster vaccine, but when the time came he took it easily. Colin was visibly anxious, but he didn't complain. Lydia was similar, but to a much lesser degree.

We waited about five minutes after the shots and then went outside to play soccer with the ball Lydia had brought. Meanwhile, Nicole and Rachel went to the nearby nursery to look for lavender plants. Nicole has been inspired by yesterday's visit to update our lavender plantation. Soccer was two on two half court. Lydia was also practicing bending her corner kicks.

Next we went to get ice cream from a place in North Ballard. We were discussing the relative merits of ice cream and frozen yogurt on the way, but it was all moot, because this place was entirely plant based. Many of the flavors used coconut. I had one of the seasonal specials: strawberry tomato. Nicole had pickled blueberry, which was another. They were all very tasty.

We stopped at another library, the Northgate branch, next, for just a few minutes, then went to Target to try to address a variety of needs. That was partly successful. We failed to find water shoes or rash guards for Lydia.

After dinner, Rachel had a party to attend at the outdoor pool in Magnolia. I believe none of us have been there since Summer 2019. Meanwhile, I convinced Colin to start reading early so we could finish book three. Before starting book four, we had some apricots for dessert. I sprinkled some spices on mine, but the kids didn't want any. I thought the cardamom and the five spice worked better than the cinnamon. I put a little too much ginger, but I think it also worked well.

I'll add a little more color about our ferry trip yesterday. We were standing on the deck about halfway to Friday Harbor and Rachel was hungry, having only eaten a malasada so far, nothing at home. I asked her to look for bakeries in Friday Harbor, because we were planning to get some bread for our lunch. She found a cafe instead, and was lured in by the photo of a matcha latte. We made a plan to walk off the ferry to the cafe while Nicole drove the car off.

This turned out to be an excellent plan, because our car was one of the last off the ferry, and in the meantime Rachel, Lydia, and I had time to visit three stores. First, the cafe, where the girls got blueberry muffins and drinks, but there was nothing for our lunch. Then, while they ate, I went into a grocery store about a block away for some bread and chocolate. Rachel saw a bookstore across the street, so she went in there last, and only then did the Pathfinder finally appear. Nicole pulled into a parking spot that had just opened up right in front of the bookstore. Then, we were on our way to the English Camp, which I'll try to include in tomorrow's post.

I had to look up "malasada"--looks like we might be able to enjoy one in August!
