Sunday, June 20th. Happy Father's Day!
In spite of their tiring Saturday afternoon, the girls were up at 7 as usual. They made breakfast in bed for Sylvain, including yogurt, orange juice, toast and two sunny-side-up eggs cooked by Laureva. They took their own breakfasts downstairs to eat with Sylvain and then gave them their presents, At school, Laureva had made a Superpapa keychain, and Maeva, a family portrait out of people with clay bodies. She included Tiger in the portrait. With their grandmother, they had made cell phone stands.
Next, I mixed up pizza dough while the girls did their homework. Laureva quizzed Maeva on her French lesson. Then we got dressed and the girls walked with me to the school so I could vote. Laureva wore her new long purple skirt for the occasion. Back home, I made pizza while the girls worked on Maeva's latest reading rally.
It was a gray day with thunderstorm warnings in effect. However, it wasn't cold and all we got were a few sprinkles. We were able to spend the afternoon outside on the patio with Guillaume who came for pizza lunch and Sophie and Jimmy who joined for a few hours later in the afternoon when it was coffee and dessert time. The girls had made lemon-lime mint sorbet for Sylvain for Father's Day and we thought there was enough to share. The sorbet came out a bit slushy. I think next time we'll try adding a tablespoon of meringue italienne (another base made with egg whites) in order to make it smoother.
After lunch, a few sprinkles sent us to the veranda to play a round of Galerapagos, Maeva's desert island survival game. We opened up the sliding glass doors all the way to get good air circulation. Then Guillaume and the girls hit the pool. The water temperature had dropped to below 26C and Guillaume and Laureva both got cold quickly so they didn't stay in too long. However, the girls were back in the pool again later under Jimmy's supervision.
We finished the afternoon with a couple rounds of Molkky. Maeva won the first game with a spectacular vertical baton throw, knocking the one out from between two other pins to go from 49 to 50. She later confessed she'd been aiming to miss! Sylvain joined us for the second game. His petanque skills were no match for the four of us. He won pretty easily. For my part, I was just happy that I saw my hand-eye-baton coordination improve from start to finish.
When Guillaume left, it was time for bath, hangout, dinner and story time. We finished Katie Kazoo: Vote for Katie. The moral seems to be that it's really hard to put oneself in another's shoes, so much compassion is necessary.
