Wednesday, August 10th. Goodbye beautiful Hawaii.
I had started feeling achy Tuesday night. I didn't feel any better when I woke up, so I took an antihistamine and a Doliprane. That helped me feel well enough to meet Evan for paddleboard yoga on the lagoon at 7:30am. I managed to do the whole hour without falling off. I thought the most difficult pose on the paddleboard was Warrior 1, one of the easy poses on dry ground.
At 9, Sylvain, Evan and Andrew headed down south of Kona to hike to the Captain Cook monument where we'd heard there was good snorkeling. The girls and I worked on packing. Then we were supposed to meet up with Julie and Lucas to hang out. Unfortunately, I did a Covid test that came back positive. Then I tested the girls. Maeva was negative (no surprise as she had Covid just two months ago). Laureva came back positive although she said she didn't have any symptoms. That put a crimp in our plans. We stayed in the room until 11:30, then dropped off our bags to store in Evan and Julie's closet (they'd extended their room until 6pm), checked out and went to have lunch at the Lagoon Grill. We got the corner table closest to the dolphin pool and got to see some dolphins playing with a ball. They played fetch for awhile with a trainer. Then they also played with it on their own, flipping it up with their noses and trying to flip it up with their tales. They weren't so great at the latter.
The boys got back from snorkeling a little before 2pm. They found us sitting in an open seating area between the lobby and the Tap Room. Evan went to clean up and finish packing. Sylvain took the girls to the lagoon for an hour of paddleboarding before heading up to shower himself.
We left the hotel shortly before 4pm to return the GoPro, which had to be back in Kona by 5, before meeting Evan and crew back at the Kona Brewing Company for an early dinner. We got separate tables. Evan's group sat inside. We sat outside. Evan would come out periodically and visit us for a few minutes. I had a strawberry, spinach, macadamia nut and blue cheese salad with a Castaway IPA. Then I shared some of Laureva's vanilla and chocolate sundae for dessert. Sylvain got a turquoise Koko Brown Ale t-shirt as a souvenir.
Then it was time to fill up the gas tank, return the rental car and take the shuttle to the airport. We met up with Evan and crew once we were through security and said our goodbyes. Our flight to SFO and their flight to LAX left at pretty much the same time, but from opposite sides of the airport.

We did some last-minute souvenir shopping at the gift shop and were happy when the gate agent called for volunteers to gate-check carry-on bags for not charge, which meant we wouldn't have to lug them around SFO for three hours.
