Friday, August 12th.
The girls made pancakes with Grandpa for breakfast. Laureva made blueberry and chocolate chip. Maëva just used chocolate chips.
A bit later, a deer sighting in the front yard distracted attention from the honey harvesting project for a few minutes, but things were soon back on track. Dad put on his beekeeping gear and took two full trays out of one hive. The girls helped scrape the honey into the honey bucket they had helped prepare by installing a spout. Later, I got a little taste. It tastes a lot like lavender, though it's darker in color than pure lavender honey. Meanwhile, Sylvain went for a run. Unfortunately, a wrong turn and a missed turn made it a 12k, instead of his planned 10k.
The girls made open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches with Pam for lunch. Then, after nap/reading time, and a round of War between the girls, Grandpa and Pam, we loaded into the van for an afternoon drive up to the new farm property in Trout Lake, a little under thirty-minutes away. We couldn't go on the property, but the spot is quite lovely with Mt. Adams in the background. On the way back, we stopped off at a river access point. The path zig-zagged down about a hundred yards and was lined on both sides with metal rails about waist-height. As we were leaving, two kayakers arrived and we saw them lay their kayaks across the rails to slide down the path.
Back home, I took another nap while the girls made pizza with Grandpa. Everyone's slice was tailored to their personal tastes. Mine had squash and olives and other things I've forgotten. The sourdough crust was pretty thick and quite tasty.
After dinner, Dad drove me to the grocery store for Tylenol as I had completely depleted my stock of Doliprane from France. On the way home, we saw eight more deer in two groups near the front of Dad's neighborhood. Back home, Laureva checked on the chickens with Grandpa before bed.
