AK/WA Adventure: Day 2

Hood Canal. Wednesday, July 30th.

We awoke at a relatively reasonable 5:30am. Sylvain went for a walk on the beach and spotted an otter. The girls went out in the yard to pick blackberries.
After a breakfast of waffles and fresh fruit, we got ready to go out in the boat.
We went down Hood Canal and around the end of the Toandos Peninsula to the west and up partway into Dabob Bay where we spotted quite a few seals, including a group of at least five sunning themselves on a log. There were also multiple porpoise sightings, including two who played in our wake for a short time. We also saw eagles, fish jumping and a deer. There were people out shrimping and back at the marina, one of the shrimpers showed off his catch to us.
Back home, I helped Cece get quesadillas and watermelon ready for lunch while the others played cornhole on the deck. After lunch, I got to play two games. My performance was irregular. After, we all headed back down to the beach. This time, we walked north. Dana showed the girls which rocks to flip over to see baby Dungeness crab. We also looked at barnacles, oysters, mussels and seaweed, and did some rock skipping. When the tide turned, we figured it was time to head home.
The four of us had some downtime while Dana and Cece went back to the marina to bring in the boat. When they returned, they joined the girls and I for a round of Play Nine. We first tried to play on the deck, but ot was too breezy for the cards so we quickly moved inside. Sylvain awoke from his nap about halfway through the game. Dana won with only 30 points, but Cece was a close second at 31.
Dinner was homemade pizza. Then Dana shared his vanilla bean and espresso whiskies with me. Both were quite tasty.
The girls made it until nearly nine before zonking out. The adults all made it to eleven!

Sounds like a dream vacation! Impressed by the adult stamina about the time change.
