Postcards from Spain | Day 2: 6/25

 Day 2:

Wednesday, June 25

Seville

It was amazing to see Seville in the daytime, especially from the view of the balcony!! Dad and I walked to get pastries for everyone, then we headed to the bus to the Conjunto Arqueológico de Itálica which was super impressive! It's a big amphitheatre and then some smaller ruins in the surrounding areas. The lunch we had from the place across the street was super yummy, and we got to try some local Spanish dishes. (Even by the end of the trip we were still raving about that meal and the lovely wait staff.) We took the bus back to Seville and walked around the Plaza de Toros. It's cool that it's embedded into the city and not separate like the stadiums in Seattle. We stopped for ice cream before heading home for siesta, and we spent some time at the rooftop pool of the hotel, which has gorgeous views! I took a nap in the sun after a bit of swimming then went downstairs to sleep in the much cooler apartment. Everyone napped for about 3 hours, then we went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. It's also cool to see how much more nightlife there is here than Seattle, where everything is dead after 10pm.

Sounds as if you segued effortlessly into the Spanish schedule--not that I know what that is but I believe the Iberians are the source of the word "siesta"...

It's very hot in the afternoons so a lot of businesses close until the evening when it's cooler and people go home, we all usually took long naps which helped us get over the jet lag. Sevilla and Granada things closed a lot more but in Madrid and Barcelona there were still a lot of places staying open through the afternoon
