We have been limiting grocery shopping to every two weeks, and when last we went we were more concerned with stocking vegetables that would last for two weeks than thinking about birthday...so I was resigned to cake-less celebration. But Anwyl hauled out the Joy of Cooking and, with a few clever substitutions for missing ingredients, made a cocoa devil's food cake! Purrrrfect birthday.
