Laureva's 8th Birthday, Part 4

At Laureva's request, we had planned a family get together for Sunday lunch to close out the 8th birthday festivities. I was planning on making spaghetti and meatballs, one of Laureva's favorite meals. I took the meat out to thaw when we got up Sunday. But then everything went haywire when Maëva tested positive for Covid.

We arrived at Urgent Care before they opened at 9am, but there were already six people in line ahead of us. There was only one doctor working and we didn't make it out until after 10:30. Then we had to find the on-call pharmacy in Auriol for Maëva's paracetemol prescription and more home tests. We didn't get back to Lascours until 11:15. Not enough time to make meatballs. I couldn't drive up to the house because they had finished the concrete project at the bend between the first two houses the night before and it was still wet. Sylvain walked down to get Maëva and Laureva and I headed to Intermarché to find a lunch solution. We settled on sausages, which meant we also had to stop by the bakery for baguettes. We got there shortly after 12 and purchases eight of their last ten baguettes right before closing.

When we got back to the bottom of our hill, Paul and Franck had already arrived. That was fortuitous as Paul came down with Sylvain to help carry the groceries back up the hill. There were also four bags of ice for the coooler. We currently have a fridge space issue as the refrigerator in the veranda has gone out and I've been waiting for the drive project to get finished to order new appliances so that the delivery van will be able to make it up the hill.

Maryelle and Christian, who are leaving on a trip to Greece soon, decided not to come once we informed everyone of Maëva's status. The others came, though. In addition to the Giraud/Zuninos, Jimmy, Sophie and Sophie's friend Yvonne from Corsica also joined us. Everyone just stayed outside on the patio, in the pool or on the boules court. It was a hot, sunny day. Maëva stayed in her room for most of the day. Some of the guests went down to wave to her through her bedroom window. She did come outside with her mask on for a bit in the evening around dessert time. Luckily I had made the pan of brownies - Laureva's favorite birthday "cake" - the day before.
