Rivermont Holiday Party Report

Checking in with the second half of the report on last night's Oklahoma doings. After appetizers and carols in the Rivermont social room, we headed next door to an apartment building that is also part of Rivermont. I hadn't realized that there was one, but it was familiar to Dad, who knew just how to get there. They have a larger common space and also, apparently, a large movie screen so he has been over there for events. When we arrived, several small children were  lined up for their turn bashing at a pinata swung by Santa; after one of them managed to bust it loose and the candies were distributed, a big band called "Talk of the Town" orchestra set up and played. They sounded pretty good to me -- they had a competent vocalist for some of the material and instrumental arrangements for a grab bag of songs including "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth." There were mini dramas and hijinks going on all around. A 50+ son trying to inveigle his 70+ mother to dance...she kept refusing, he gave up, then they played a song that she liked and off they went. Little boys trying to rock climb the pillars every time their Moms turned their eyes away. A trumpet player who took his Santa hat off to adjust it and put it back on a little too vigorously -- the pompom was so heavy the swinging weight pulled it right off his head and it flew into the row of players behind. The place was packed; Dad and I watched all the goings on. By the time the orchestra finished their set (about an hour) he was ready to call it a night and back we went. A better woman would have remembered the IPad in her purse and provided you with pictures, but you will have to make do with this word picture for now.
