I just read this book, so I figured I'd post a review because of Tanya's interest in detective fiction. Plus, as I watch CSI, Castle, Criminal Minds, Bones, etc., I think I have the requisite background to perform a thorough review. Plus, I have some experience (I've been told) helping museums with their dinosaur exhibits. So, here goes.
The story begins with a missing dinosaur leg bone. The three detective bears and their hound dog, Snuff, have just hours to discover what has happened to the bone. They need to recover the bone so that it can be included in the dinosaur exhibit. Time is short before the museum opens for the day.
So, they begin searching the museum. They do a thorough job. But, alas, they are unsuccessful. All their leads amount to nothing. They just can't snuff out the crook.
Then, miraculously, just before time runs out, they discover the missing bone. Where was it? It was hidden out in the yard, outside the museum. It had been stolen and buried. By whom? Well, that hound dog (and bone thief) Snuff! Like so many criminals, he had inserted himself in the middle of the investigation. It wasn't explicitly stated, but I can't help but assume many of the missteps the bears took in their search were probably do to Snuff intentionally sabotaging the investigation. But, who could blame him ... if they'd found the bone buried outside, his plot would be foiled.
In the end, the bone was found. The crook was found. However, the story ends before we find out what happens to Snuff. I can't help but think he made out ok ... all's well that ends well, right? No harm, no foul?
