Tuesday, July 13th.
After breakfast, I left to pick up our weekly groceries from the organic market and Intermarché Drive. Back home, the girls were getting ready to leave for a day out at a waterfall at Chateau Vert in the Vars with Gabrielle, Louis and the grandparents. Sylvain and Philippe were starting work on the terrain de boules. Philippe was driving the back-ho and Sylvain was shoveling. I finished typing up an extract from "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" for my fall detective fiction course.
The boys finished working in the dirt before lunch, so I joined them for an apéro followed by lunch. Then they left to see about the availability of dirt and sand for filling in the petanque court. I cleaned up and started reading a volume of Thomas De Quincey texts On Murder.
Later, when the girls were home and in the bath, I finished up my shoe organizing project. After fifteen years in this house, I finally have them nicely arranged where I can see them for easier selection.
Last night, following the president's announcements about Covid-19 measures, there were a record number of connections to the online system for vaccination appointments. One of those was our cleaning lady who told me this morning that she had made appointments for herself and her younger son. Her husband and her older son (who lives on his own with his girlfriend) are still holding out. They will probably have to bite the bullet and get vaccinated relatively soon, however, as Covid tests will no longer be covered by social security starting in October. Another vaccine reticent couple we know (composed of a pharmacist and a child psychologist, both retired) just got their first doses yesterday so they could go on vacation with some friends next month.
