Wednesday, July 14th. Bastille Day.
The handyman was here with his son this morning, working on the driveway. They were making drilling and scraping noises well before 7.
Sylvain went to play in a boules tournament organized by his friend Michel in Gemenos. The girls and I had a low-key day at home.
This morning, I did the exercise bike. The girls continued the flag decorations for Maeva's party. Then the three of us sat down and talked about party plans.
This afternoon, we read (Katie Kazoo, Dork Diaries, A Study in Scarlet, Arthur Mervyn . . .), then learned to play a new card game called Papayoo that Laureva got from Franck for her birthday. You win tricks, but try to get the least amount of points possible. Laureva hadn't been excited to play it, but soon declared it to be very fun. In many respects, it reminded me of Spades, which I loved to play as a teenager, so I was quite happy with it, as well. Maeva had a harder time, as she lost most of the rounds. Unfortunately, it takes at least three players, so we'll have to find some way to convince her to give it another chance, if we want to play again. Laureva and I played a few rounds of Mastermind. Then the girls played some Switch until dinner.
After evening story time, I let the girls read on their own in their rooms for about thirty minutes before lights out.
