Cutting it close

Wednesday was less unusual than Tuesday, but still a departure from the ordinary. Nicole refrained from accepting any substitution offers, despite phone calls, because we haven't modified piano lessons yet, nor figured out after-school transportation for Rachel.

My team had a lunch scheduled, though, at a restaurant in Ballard called Asadero. I took the car. I was supposed to be there at noon, but the drawbridge held me up. There were only five of us there, out of about fifteen people, but we had a nice conversation. I ordered salmon. Several others had beef served with a hot stone to cook themselves. It was slower than expected, though, and I left just before 1:30, the time I was supposed to be home.

Traffic was not helpful, and I didn't get back until almost 1:45, but Nicole still got Lydia and Colin to piano with one minute to spare. Eric stayed home because his teacher is out this week.

I spent the afternoon working on hiring committee packets. I was expecting a light week, or possibly no meeting at all, but this morning they arrived in my inbox in defiance of my hopes. I finally finished the third one at almost six. I still have one left for tomorrow. They were more difficult than usual.

Rachel ordered Malena's for dinner, and Nicole took Colin to pick it up. After dinner, Nicole was watching Wheel of Time, so I played dreidel with Eric while Rachel and Lydia wrapped gifts from Lydia to the boys. Eric cleaned me out, though it took a long time. I had to look up alternate rules to speed it along. There's no rich-get-richer mechanism, so the drift in his direction should not have been inevitable, but still seemed so.

I baked a loaf of bread tonight and also started on seed bread for teacher gifts on Friday. Tomorrow looks busy, so I didn't want to save it all for the morning.
