Lascours Lockdown, Day 645

Sunday, December 19th. 

Twinkle got into the girls' Christmas decorations from their Advent Calendar overnight.

I had a quiet breakfast in the company of a JCO story. The girls didn't come home until I was halfway through my bike session, about 8:30. Maeva asked to watch the first episode of Locke and Key. We did. It seems a little mature for the girls in parts, but it might be okay if I watch it with them. I haven't decided yet.

For the rest of the morning, the girls played Switch while I prepared eggnog and baked a mostly egg white quiche (with the eggnog leftovers). Maëva also finished sewing a felt Christmas tree ornament that she'd started yesterday and hung it on the tree. Laureva did a gingerbread man ornament yesterday. It was less complicated so she finished more quickly. They're from a kit of six that I bought to occupy the girls some over break. I might get two more half days out of that.

I installed the new Command hooks on the front door. They're ultimately intended for coats, but for now, the girls' snowman paintings are hanging on them.

This afternoon I did some laundry and worked on the thesis examination. I made it through the summary of psychoanalytical concepts in the first part, which was a bit tedious and technical. The other two parts are analyses of Oates stories, so will probably go more quickly. After reading time, Sylvain took the girls running again. They were so cute setting off down the hill together.

When the girls got home, they washed up, then we connected to Google Meet before the hangout to do a Harry Potter escape room with Nicole and Rachel. Maeva has been eager to do this ever since Nicole first mentioned it a couple months ago. She seemed to enjoy reading the texts out loud and figuring out the puzzles. Then Nicole showed us two escape rooms that she's done herself for the kids in Lydia's class. During the hangout, I enjoyed a cup of eggnog, as did the Raye Streeters. Evan made an appearance with crazy shower hair. Mom showed us her light-up Christmas tree painting from yesterday. Dad showed us his foggy mountainless landscape.

Before bed, Google picked us two carols that were both new to the girls and one to me: "Good King Wenceslas" and "It Must Have Been the Mistletoe," the latter by Barbra Streisand. Laureva seemed to enjoy learning some new songs.
