It's not the actual weather that is a problem, though it is cold this morning - the coldest of the season by far. The trouble is that there's little agreement on how cold it is. One weather app said 6F. Another said 11F.
It's equally squirrely in the forecasts. When one forecast is for a low of 13F and another for 20F, which do you believe? One forecast will say rain, and another snow.
I suspect the forecast problem is that we're in a very dynamic transitional zone that is very difficult to forecast, between the maritime climate of the west side of the Cascades and the high desert just a few miles east of us.
The "actual" temps from the weather apps and sites must not be actual temp readings, but coming from the same models as the forecasts. I guess we'll have to get a good thermometer of our own.

We have dropped from 39 to 27. I believe it is supposed to keep getting colder for a while. We started the year with just under an inch of rain, according to my rain gage. It was enough to fill the pond and have some run off.

Maybe they are actual measurements at different locations.
I've noticed the weather app on my phone is less accurate than the NOAA forecast.
It's now 3 pm and the temp has dropped to 19, and it is snowing lightly!
That's possible Evan, but White Salmon isn't a huge place and I don't think there are any official weather stations here.
So, for today, NOAA is forecasting a high of 34 and snow this afternoon followed by rain this eve. Several of the apps are forecasting highs between 25-27 deg and a foot of snow. I'll let you know which we end up getting, but have to plan for two vastly different scenarios in terms of whether we'll be able to go anywhere tomorrow.
