Sequestered in Seattle, Day 336

Wednesday was full of meetings for me. I took a short break before lunch to ride with Rachel to pick up her new book. She was excited to start reading it, but spent most of the afternoon working on her thirty mini sketches for art class.

After work, we walked to Home Grown on the Avenue to pick up sandwiches for dinner. It was about thirty-five minutes round trip. Then Nicole and I attended a second reading specialist session, this time aimed at parents of third to fifth graders. The presenter was Ms. Fernandi, who was Rachel's fifth grade teacher. Rachel eventually sat down with us too, which was good, because Ms. Fernandi had linked to her website in her presentation, and then also featured a quote that coincidentally was on the shirt Rachel was wearing. The session was supposed to end at eight, but we stayed on talking until almost nine thirty. Among other things, we learned that Ms. Fernandi's husband designed a maze at the Papalote children's museum in Mexico City, which we visited in 2018. I'm not sure why it took us so long to learn this. We took that trip the year Rachel was in her class. I think Rachel enjoyed catching up with her teacher.

After that, we looked at some videos Nicole had been working on during the day for introducing upcoming PTA events. That was a bit of a distraction at bed time. Rachel has been working on push-ups, and did a couple with really nice form while Eric finished the first Magic Treehouse book and started the second.

One of the slides in tonight's presentation was titled "No Time to Stop!" and I was worried it was going to tell us we shouldn't be making the children put the books down and go to sleep. It wasn't. It was just reinforcing the need to continue encouraging kids to read, even after they start to take to it.

I started on Sunday, and could barely do one. Then my arms were EXHAUSTED on Monday, but I did some more in the afternoon (like, 2) and then each day I've done a few (always less than 5) until yesterday, I was able to do a lot (maybe 10? Not all at once though). They're getting easier, too!
