Sequestered in Seattle, Day 397

Monday of spring break. The sky was very blue today. Nicole and I went to another nursery and got more of the plants she was looking for. We also found some more native shrubs: two golden currants and a bald-hip rose. Now all the pots we had have something in them.

We walked to pick up Malena's for lunch. In the late afternoon I took Rachel on the bike to the orthodontist. In between, Rachel and I sat in the back yard reading. I eventually finished Underland, in time to return it to the library on its due date tomorrow. It's a nice book, visiting lots of interesting places and pulling in plenty of interesting voices, but I still wanted something more from it.

We saw a bird that I thought at a glance might be a peregrine falcon fly over us. Later we saw it again with four crows harassing it. It seemed smaller than the crows. Maybe a younger one?

After I dropped Rachel off at the orthodontist, I rode up to Highland to look at Rainier and see the magnolia there. The mountain was out, though clouds covered the peak, but the tree had already bloomed. I don't know how many weeks have passed since we were over there, but enough. There were a few spent blossoms still evident, but it was almost bare. Many other magnolias are still blooming, but not the Campbell's.

I made pizza for dinner, but neither Nicole nor Rachel had much appetite, so we only ate about half of it. There should be plenty for lunch tomorrow. We watched the third Men in Black movie. I know I hadn't seen this one. Like any good part three, it added time travel. Finally, we read a short chapter of our book. The people in this town are strange.

I didn't sit down at the computer today, so I haven't reviewed the weekly numbers. Maybe I'll get a chance later in the week. Maybe it will be a two-week update next Monday.
