Saturday morning was drippy again, but it shaped up into a nice day, in the end. We piled into the car around nine to begin our long errands. The kids brought electronics, books, pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals. Nicole brought snacks. They're really not used to being in the car.
The first stop was the mill depot for two bags of flour. That was uneventful, except that they'd reversed the direction of the drive through, and they started a loyalty card for me, which is new.
Our next stop was a nature trail with a restroom nearby, since Nicole had had coffee. Then we went on to Bellingham, which is not much further up the interstate. I don't remember ever visiting there before. We managed to find the nursery, and our four cacti were sitting outside, but their outdoor space was also open, so we walked in to look around. They have a pretty good selection for such a small space. We found a yellow iris to take to Karen, whose birthday is Monday.
For the entertainment portion of our trip, we next headed even farther north, to Birch Bay State Park. That's one of the places we were supposed to go camping last summer. We first drove through the campground to see where we would have been. It looked like a nice spot. Then we went down to the beach. We saw lots of tiny hermit crabs in shallow tide pools, and some large crabs. Rachel took a photo of a small sea anemone.
From there we came straight home, arriving just after three. We had a quick late lunch, then Nicole and I went back out, to Magnolia to pick up a plant she had reserved, to Five Corners Hardware for pots, and to Ken's for potting soil and ice cream.
We carefully transferred two of the prickly pears to terra cotta. We need more pots for the other two. We planted one potato pot before running out of soil. Nicole planted her Brunnera for the front porch, too.
Nicole pulled Lydia outside to meet the "new" neighbor. They moved into the house across the alley in October. The younger child, who is ten, was playing in the back yard. She and Lydia played with a ball until dinner time.
After dinner, we dropped off Paola's share of the flour, then went to Karen and Noah's for back yard socializing. Karen had also been plant shopping today. She's fully vaccinated now, and Noah's about a week ahead of us.
After we returned home, Lydia wanted to watch Merlin, so we agreed to one episode, though it was later than usual. She lost a tooth today, so she put it under a post it note on her desk labeled "pillow".

The Tooth Fairy should always be so lucky!
That was a nice long trip. I assume by the end of it that the snacks had become used to being in the car.
