Thursday, Nicole again stayed home. The contractor postponed due to supply issues, but she also had a meeting with another substitute teacher. She walked to Kerry Park after lunch at Macrina Bakery. The kids were going to walk to Spanish, but Nicole intercepted them to supply a snack, and then ended up picking up Rachel and Flavia, since she was already out and about.
Rachel's latest Owlcrate arrived today, with a self-published copy of Frankenstein in addition to the YA title of the month. She also had a graphic novel to pick up from the bookstore, and got an ARC along with it due to their 9th birthday celebration, so she acquired four new books this afternoon. When it rains, it pours. Thankfully, it dried off this evening, and the forecast is for no more rain until Tuesday. Sadly, I'm mixing my metaphors with their literal referents.
At work, I was blithely carrying on until mid-afternoon, when I was contacted to help with an urgent "need to know" situation. I've never dealt with that before, and I don't understand why it's secret. So far I've just written a document, but I may have to make some changes tomorrow. I don't think I'll need to work overtime.
I assisted Rachel with some math after work, before and after dinner. She was frequently distracted. I got to read a few pages of Among Flowers before our TV session. After, I read several pages about Madagascar. It mostly covered the interesting architecture of the capital, Antananarivo, called Tana. The word of the day is noria, which came to French from Arabic via Spanish. That may be what it's called in English, too. It's a wheel for lifting water, such as for irrigation.

Dogs?
Not literal dogs. Literal books and figurative dogs, as in raining cats and. I did say I was mixing them up but still expected it might be confusing. I considered "Cats and books" but that seemed like too familiar a pairing.
