Today turned out to be a two-outing day. Late this morning, a 10-minute walk got me to my first haircut since last...June(?). I was disappointed to end up with the same chin-ish length bob everyone's been giving me for the last few years. My hair has thinned enough that the stylist recommended not doing the shorter pixie with bangs that was the cut everyone did pre-bob and that I was thinking would be a nice change. It was a pretty expensive place, so I may try somewhere else next time. I'm not sure what length is going to work for summer heat -- I suspect either a bit longer so I can do a headband or shorter even if the look is not as good. After haircut, I found an ice cream place across the street, which served as consolation. It was OK but not so good that I'll make any effort to return. Fun to try anyway.
Second and longer outing was not on the calendar. A friend called and invited me to an outing in Hermann Park. We've talked about doing this since I arrived. She starts a new job Monday, and this was her last free day for awhile. The park includes a small zoo (it was strange to see sea lions and bald eagles at a zoo in Texas), a carousel (we rode! I wanted to sit on the sea otter but decided it was too close to the animal my friend chose so got on the next one over -- don't even know what animal it was), a Japanese tea garden, a large, long pond to walk around (we did not choose to pedal boat), lots of ducks, trees, and flowers, and an artificial hill and event space. (Other areas, too, that we did not explore.) We did the hill last, I'd been trudging for awhile around the flat space, but as soon as I started uphill, I felt a surge of energy and fun and started going fast. Hmmm. Possibly missing Juneau trails.
So I got to see a close but different piece of town. Saturday, I'm riding about a half hour east to participate in an event in Katy, TX running Bars for community people who drop in.
