Thursday, September 3rd. Grape day 3!
(Maëva's portrait of Laureva from Sunday hangout)
Magda doesn't have Covid-19. It must have just been stomach flu. She and her sister went to school today. I heard on the news this morning that after just one day of school, there are already ten school closures across France due to Covid cases. This evening, they were reporting on two more: one in Marseille, one in Paris. After dropping the girls off at school, I headed up to the university to sign some papers so as to keep getting paid on time (Sylvain didn't need his car today). I also dropped off my parking space request and picked up my free masks. The masks are a bit strange. They're made out of a single circle of microfiber. You have to fold them and then twist the sides before fitting them over your ears. However, they come in different colors - aqua, eggplant, navy - so it'll be possible to coordinate with my outfits. To facilitate social distancing, there were arrows marking circulation flow and designated doors for entry and exit. However, no one seemed to be paying any attention. One of the ideas being bandied about is to postpone the semester start date by a week while things are getting set up. We're supposed to find out the administration's final decision on Friday.
On my way home I stopped for grapes, wart medicine for Maëva's toe (I was told to use lemongrass essential oil rather than the chemical product that burns and can be painful) and a haircut.
This afternoon, I worked on a bit of translation in preparation for class. After yoga, it was soon time to go pick up Maëva and take her to dance class. Sylvain picked up Laureva. While Maëva was in class, I chatted with Rachel and read 1984. Back home, we ordered her a new pair of dance slippers, listened to Laureva's poem from school and learned from Sylvain that my car will be available Monday! Now I hope the semester is postponed so I can pick it up a day earlier than planned!

The essential oil wart treatment was too slow and kept burning the healthy skin around the wart. The Urgent Care doctor said we should get it burned at the dermatologist's. However, no appointments are available until January. Tuesday, October 13th, I got an acid gel wart treatment at the pharmacy. After two days of treatment, the wart blacked up, scabbed up and came off leaving a tiny hole on the top of Maeva's toe. Unfortunately, try as I might, I couldn't get the gel to stay only on the wart so it also burned some of the good skin around. However, everything seems to be healing right up with regular application of antiseptic cream. What a relief to have finally won this wart battle.
