On the dog walk this afternoon, I snapped this image. It is taken from approximately the same spot as the photo on the cover of the special issue of Time Magazine that is coming out.
I think I did a decent job replicating the perspective, considering I hadn't looked at the Time photo in a couple of days and was just using my phone to grab the image.

Our house is the one to the left of the tan shop building and to the right of the gray shop building.
So the Time cover photo must have been taken near the end of the tornado's run - when it was passing North of you? Why was the photographer in your neighborhood?
Yes. I'm not sure. I'm guessing the storm chasers were paralleling it on the south, staying a little behind it. I'm not sure who took the picture. The picture was taken from right at the entrance, right of 149th, which is the road you'd take to chase it east from Sooner.
I'm wondering if the crew was late arriving (i.e., after the fact) and couldn't get into any of the area hit by the tornado? I can't think of any other reason they would pick a neighborhood that (thankfully) wasn't hit for the cover.
oh, now that I see the actual photo on FB, I see that it is during the storm - so it was an action shot - not an after (see the devastation) shot. Makes sense now.
Ok, I get it. It's was taken of, lets say, the backside of the tornado off to the East.
No. It is taken of the side of the tornado. The tornado was moving mostly eastward. The shot is straight north (almost) ... maybe NNNW. The tornado path was EENE'ish. Got it? Good.
