Doughnuts cats piano

Sunday Rachel and I made apple cider doughnuts with apple pie filling. She said she found the recipe at the beginning of the pandemic. She printed it out in the last few weeks. We fried them in our cast iron wok, which worked really well. Basically no splatter. They tasted like apple pie in a doughnut.

Eric had another birthday party. It had been planned for the Discovery Park playground, but the forecast was for rain so they moved it to their home, just a couple blocks from our house. It wasn't raining at the time of the party, though, so the kids played outside the whole time. Nicole heard that two classmates had tested positive since the birthday party on Friday, so that was probably for the best.

The piano technician returned in the afternoon, and continued working until after seven. She was just in time to smell the doughnuts cooking. Nicole gave her one. We left her here and all went to the cat café, a late birthday present for one of Lydia's classmates. His brother, who is Colin's friend, also came along. The cats were very active, so my strategy of sitting with a book didn't work very well this time. They all left to play with the kids.

The piano work is complete, but we're supposed to wait until tomorrow to play it. She's going to come back in a couple weeks for another tuning.

The French word of the day today is gigogne, meaning nested, like Russian dolls. The usage was poupée gigogne, describing a palace built around another palace, but the dictionary says the adjective can also apply to tables and other things. A mère gigogne is a mother of many children, originally a theater character, and probably derived from cigogne, stork.
