Lascours Lockdown, Day 526

Sunday, August 22nd.

We had breakfast outside on the patio with Nigel. Laureva requested crepes. While I did the exercise bike and various chores, the girls spent nearly all morning hanging out on the patio to keep Nigel company. They did some thank you notes and some coloring, as well as playing with the bunny. Laureva brushed him for awhile, which he seemed to like. Laureva has also discovered that he likes basil, so she's been giving him treats from our plant. By the time Nigel leaves, the basil will probably be gone.
Penny's German friends stopped by at lunch time to give us their house keys. I drove down to the mailbox to meet them and gave them a small bag of four chocolate-hazelnut-filled crepes for the road. They are the only other people I saw in person all day. It was nice to have a low-key day.
This afternoon, we read, I napped, the girls and Sylvain went swimming, and Laureva played more with Nigel. He has a harness and a leash and she'd like to be able to take him for walks. However, he pretty much goes where he wants and she follows along behind.
This evening, Sylvain went to Franck's house to watch the OM game. After the hangout, the girls and I did story time out on the patio so that Nigel would be able to hear our voices and have some company down in the tortoise enclosure. We've started a new Holmes story: "The Yellow Face." It's still unclear what the mystery is apart from the fact that it concerns the client's wife.

Of course Nigel likes Basil. Couple of classic Brit names there.

Walking Nigel sounds just like walking Hootsie! Except for the leash and harness part. That's become part of the fun of it for me -- watching what he is noticing and getting a small taste of another species' rhythm.
